Border Facilities Are At Full Capacity

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen stated in a CNN interview that US-Mexico border facilities are “out of space.” The DHS Secretary notes that there has been a large increase in families and unaccompanied children attempting to cross over the border. Nielsen’s comments come in contrast to the Trump administration’s current push to change regulations to detain families longer.

In August alone, 12,774 people have been arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border, a 40% increase compared to July. In totality, ICE is imprisoning a record 44,000 as of November.
